On Monday, March 12, at HAPHousing, CHAPA and Network partners joined in a legislative briefing around budget priorities for housing and homelessness. Attendees included: Rep. Peter Kocot, Rep. Paul Mark, Rep. Joe Finn, Senator Jim Welch, and aides from Senator Gail Candaras’ and Rep. Benjamin Swan’s offices. The issue of families living in hotels featured prominently, raising discussion of the importance of prevention (RAFT funding) and more affordable housing (MRVP subsidies), and the need to continue to separate shelter and the pathway to housing. Legislators also raised the question of residency requirements and the critical need for more revenues to adequately address the need.
The Network and its partners drew attention to the Governor’s proposal to provide $1 million in funding to the Networks (and ICHH), via line-item 7004-0109, and provided a snapshot of the vital role our network plays in the region.
Thanks to all who participated in this important conversation.
