Last Friday, July 16, the Daily Hampshire Gazette published a front page story on the Network’s progress in moving families out of motels and into housing.
In May, Yvonne Villigran, 23, moved with her two young children to an apartment.
That may seem like a small thing, but after living for eight months with two energetic children in a tiny motel room, without so much as a hot plate to cook meals for them, this was monumental.
Villigran, a personal care attendant who formerly lived in South Hadley, and her children are among a growing number of formerly homeless families who managed to find suitable lodging, in part through a concerted effort to place homeless families in their own apartments, rather than in shelters.
