In Pittsfield:
There was cause for celebration in Pittsfield yesterday as the community celebrated the groundbreaking for 37 new permanent supportive apartments and a housing resource center. The projects will provide long-term housing and supportive resources for people experiencing homelessness. Read all about it in the Berkshire Eagle here.
As best stated by Eileen Peltier, CEO of Hearthway, the project developer: “Today we celebrate our community’s commitment and responsibility to our neighbors, especially those who are unhoused, living in shelter or outside. Today, Pittsfield is taking a big step toward our responsibility to make our community stronger for all of us.”
In Springfield:
More good news came recently with the City of Springfield’s award of $1.3 million from the federal Department of Justice to support a comprehensive intervention program at the Springfield District Court. It will help unhoused people who have just been arrested on misdemeanors to find treatment and other resources. This program will work in partnership with an expanded transitional housing program funding of $1.5 million through the federal HOME funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
