This Thursday, January 18, the MA Joint Committee on Housing is holding its legislative hearing on the Affordable Homes Act, the $4.1 billion proposal that will make a BIG impact on meeting our affordable housing needs. It also contains important policy proposals that need to be made better (and is missing a few that we need to get in there!).

So let’s weigh in!

You can sign up to testify, virtually or in person, by Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 12 noon – complete THIS FORM to save your spot!

We also know that written testimony matters A LOT. Here is sample testimony from the Network to adapt as you see fit (add or subtract anything); you can also simply email one sentence or 20, sharing your thoughts on why the Legislature must act on this affordable housing crisis NOW.

Email your testimony by Friday, January 19, 5 pm to Housing Committee staff Luke O’Roark at luke.oroark@mahouse.gov and Christianna Golden at christianna.golden@masenate.gov (and copy Pamela at pschwartz@westernmasshousingfirst.org so we can cheer each other on!).

Finally, a note of thanks to our western MA legislators for their delegation letter to Committee Chairs, urging the adoption of our Western MA Housing Coalition recommendations (the Berkshire County delegation submitted a similar letter as well).

We’re in this together, and together, let’s be heard!

P.S. If you want to check out the hearing live, as of 11 am on Thurs., Jan. 19, go here for the livestream link.
