Hi, my name is __________. I live/work in Senator _________’s district. May I speak to Senator __________ or their staff?
I am calling today to ask that you support Amendment 12 in the supplemental budget and extend the “chapter 257” law that protects tenants from being evicted while they are waiting RAFT rent assistance. This law is set to expire on March 31. Please extend this protection now to stop unnecessary evictions. Thank you for your support.
Background: On Monday, the Senate Ways and Means Committee released its redraft (S 23) of a supplemental budget Governor Healey filed last month and have scheduled it for a vote tomorrow, 3/9. We have a critical window during this supplemental budget process to extend Chapter 257 protections, which requires courts to pause eviction cases when rental assistance is pending. But this critical eviction protection is set to expire on March 31st putting many tenants at risk of eviction – even when rental assistance could resolve their cases.
Act NOW, tonight or tomorrow morning! Spread the word to your networks! Let’s be heard!
