This is urgent: Federal protections against eviction and foreclosure expire on July 31, but the Mass Legislature has not even set a hearing date for the COVID-19 Housing Equity bill… despite the clear urgency and the nearly 70 cosponsors on this critical legislation. In MA over 18,000 eviction cases have been filed since October and around 90% (!) of rent assistance applications are being denied by a dysfunctional system. 28,000+ homeowners are over 90 days behind on mortgage payments and vulnerable to foreclosure.
