Boston recently enacted an eviction moratorium in response to the end of the federal eviction moratorium. Malden and Somerville also have taken action to protect vulnerable tenants from eviction.

These are effective responses and yet their piecemeal effect clearly leaves millions of tenants at risk of eviction. As Andrea Park, attorney for Mass Law Reform Institute is quoted: “the problem with local actions is that they are obviously not a comprehensive solution and leave many people unprotected.”
The COVID-19 Housing Equity bill is the statewide solution to this crisis. Thanks to our Western MA legislators for their support – now we need them to push even harder to make it happen.
