The State Senate Ways and Means Budget released its proposed FY22 state budget last week. Overall, our housing priorities fared very well – go here to see a comparative chart. Thank you to our Western MA Senate delegation for their support and leadership.
And we have more work to do! Please see the Network priority budget amendments. This is the week when Senators decide which amendments to co-sponsor. You can find your legislator’s contact information here. A quick call or email to share the Network’s priorities with the ask: “please co-sponsor these amendments“ is all it takes – and it makes a really big difference.
With Governor Baker’s announcement that he will lift the state of emergency on June 15, and the CDC eviction moratorium expiring on June 30 (and facing challenges in the courts right now), the urgency is greater than ever to provide tenants greater protections from eviction and homelessness. Amendment #371 will extend CDC protections here in MA. The COVID-19 Housing Equity Bill will provide even more. Let’s join Springfield No One Leaves and Arise for Social Justice at Court Square in Springfield on Wed., 5/19, at 5:30 pm to bring our voices to prevent more evictions and homelessness in our community!
