MA Coalition for the Homeless and MA Law Reform Institute are heading up an organizational sign-on letter to the MA Legislature to extend HomeBASE benefits in order to keep families safe and ensure continuity of rent payments to landlords (and prevent evictions).
HomeBASE is a program administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to assist extremely low-income children and their families pay rent to private market landlords. HomeBASE currently provides EA-eligible families a maximum of $10,000 over 12 months and only is available for families that otherwise would be residing in the state’s EA shelter system.
Despite advocacy efforts thus far, DHCD has not agreed to a one year extension to ensure family stability during this COVID crisis. This letter asks the Legislature to urge DHCD and the Governor to grant a one year extension to prevent homelessness and keep families safe.
Please read the letter and sign on here. The deadline is Friday, August 14 at 5 pm. Thank you!
