Topic: Re-Establishing Social & Economic Mobility – The Family Independence Initiative (FII) is a national center innovating family-led approaches to economic and social mobility. Since 2001, FII has shown that investing in people’s strengths and initiative delivers more powerful, sustainable, and cost effective outcomes for low-income families. Their strength-based approach, as radical and as old as our democracy, is inspired by the historical successes of poor communities in the U.S.
FII’s approach is based on these principles:
• Reward and encourage initiative
• Honor community social connections and mutuality
• Recognize and invest in resident leadership and solutions
• Respect self-determination
Presenter: Jesus Gerena, Director of FII Boston
