The number of homeless families living in motels in Western Massachusetts has declined by nearly one-third since the end of January, dropping from 312 to 212 families living in area motels as of June 2, 2010.
Coordinated rehousing, diversion and prevention efforts across the region account for this drop in families living in motels. Families are exiting motels and entering permanent housing with the assistance of HPRP and ICHH rehousing funds. At the same time, HPRP and ICHH diversion/prevention funds are also working: in May 2010, 49 families entered the shelter system, the lowest number since August, 2009.
