We’re out of the gate! The new Legislative Session has begun and so has our advocacy:
Now is the time to contact our legislators and ask them to co-sponsor our priority bills that will protect tenants and create more affordable housing.
Action steps:
1. Find your legislators here.
2. Write an email or make a phone call (you choose!) that says a version of this (be sure to copy the list so bill numbers are included):
Dear Representative/Senator [fill in name]:
I am writing to ask you to co-sponsor the following bills that are critical to prevent more homelessness and address our affordable housing crisis:
- Access to counsel in evictions (HD.3657 & SD.1082)
- Eviction record sealing (HOMES) (HD.3657 & SD.1082)
- Real Estate Transfer Fee for Affordable Housing (HD.2857 & SD.1982)
- Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA) (HD 3645 & SD 2238)
- Enabling Local Rent Control (HD. 3953 & SD.1818)
- Foreclosure Prevention (HD1551 & SD923)
- Supportive Housing Subsidy Pool (HD.216 & SD.674)
and more here.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
your name, address
